Citizen Science | 16 August 2023
Since June 2023, Kent Wildlife Trust and Buglife have been conducting a nationwide citizen science study called Bugs Matter that uses insect splats on license plates as a measure of insect abundance.
The purpose of this is to better understand the population health of our invertebrates. As this year’s survey is concluding on 31st August, the Bugs Matter team has announced the ‘Great British Bug Off’.
They are calling on everyone to log as many journeys on the free Bugs Matter app as they can throughout August. The three participants who log the most journeys this month will win some amazing prizes, including bug houses, mugs, tote bags and more.
To participate, you simply need to clean your number plate before making a journey, tap ‘begin journey’ in the app, count the bugs that were crushed on the plate after you’ve reached you’re destination and upload a photo and your count to the app. For more information, visit the Great British Bug Off on buglife website
If you wish to get involved in some Citizen Science simply download the app for free if you want to take part, and you can start logging your journeys today!
